Paragliding in Annecy
Paragliding capital of Europe. Launch from Planfait above Lake Annecy, the most iconic tandem and solo flying site in the world.
Why here
The Col de la Forclaz launch sits 1,100 meters above Lake Annecy, and the flight to the lakeshore is among the most photographed in the sport, turquoise water, the old town, and the Aravis massif as backdrop. The lake's thermal engine is predictable and powerful, making Annecy a summer training hub for European pilots and one of the continent's premier tandem destinations.
Best months
Lake thermals trigger consistently from late morning; flights are smooth and reliable May through September. The Venturi effect between the Tournette and Veyrier ridges can produce strong cycles in the afternoon, local guides time launches accordingly. Light northerly "vent du lac" days offer the silkiest conditions for beginners.
Getting there & around
Col de la Forclaz is 20 minutes by car from Annecy center; all operators run shuttle transfers. Landing is on the lakeshore at Doussard or in Lathuile, both are easily accessible. The site is extremely popular in July and August; book at least a week ahead. Off-season (April, October) offers shorter queues and uncrowded skies.
