Why here
Pohoda Festival is the reason to be in Trencin in July, and it has quietly become one of central Europe's most respected music and arts gatherings. The musician Michal Kascak founded it in 1997 and moved it onto the town's former military airfield, where the runways now hold a spread of stages. What sets Pohoda apart is its scale and temper: attendance is capped around 30,000, which keeps it human, and the programme runs well past headline concerts into theatre, dance, literature, visual art and public debate. The setting is a wide valley airfield ringed by the Western Carpathians, and the festival leans into comfort and curation rather than sheer size, which has earned it a loyal international following and a run of European festival awards. You come to inhabit it for a few days, not just to catch a band.
Best months
Pohoda runs over about four days in early-to-mid July on the Trencin airfield. Most visitors camp on site for the full run, so a tent, shade and sun cover matter in the July heat, and the open airfield can turn muddy in a storm. Passes are multi-day and sell strongly once the line-up lands, so book ahead. The town itself, under its castle, is a short trip from the festival grounds.
Getting there & around
Trencin is on the main Bratislava-to-Zilina rail line, about an hour and a half from the capital, and the airfield site is served by shuttle and local transport during the festival. Camping on the grounds is the standard way to do the full event; day visitors come in by bus or train. Buy passes and any camping add-on in advance through the official site, which also details the site layout and move-in day.

It is a deliberately mid-sized, multi-genre event, capping attendance around 30,000 and spreading music across many stages alongside theatre, dance, visual art, literature and public discussion. The 2026 edition marked its 30th year, with The Cure among the headliners, and the company sets the 2027 festival for early July.
