Isle of MTV turns the Granaries square in Floriana into Europe's largest free open-air concert for one night every July. Staged in Malta since 2007 by MTV in partnership with the national tourism authority, the show has drawn tens of thousands to Il-Fosos, an enormous walled esplanade built over 17th-century grain silos just outside Valletta, with past headliners from Lady Gaga and David Guetta to the 2026 bill led by Katy Perry. Admission is free with advance registration, and the concert opens Malta Music Week, five days of club, beach and boat events across the island. It is a big, pop-driven summer party in one of the most striking outdoor venues in the Mediterranean, and it puts a small country on the map of the touring international music circuit for a night.
Best months
Isle of MTV is a single night in mid-to-late July at the Granaries in Floriana, with gates in the late afternoon and the main acts after dark. It is free but requires registering in advance for a standard ticket through the official channels, and paid grandstand upgrades are sold separately. July nights are warm and the square is standing-room and very crowded, so arrive early for a spot near the stage.
Getting there & around
The Granaries (Il-Fosos) is in Floriana, a ten-minute walk from Valletta's bus terminus and easily reached by bus from across the island, and the area closes to traffic for the event. Register free in advance through the official Isle of MTV channels and bring the confirmation. Public transport and taxis are busy afterwards, so plan the trip back or stay in Valletta or Sliema within walking or short-ride distance.

OrganizerIsle of MTV is an annual free festival produced by MTV, part of Paramount, in partnership with the Malta Tourism Authority. First held in Malta in 2007 after earlier editions elsewhere in Europe, it has become the continent's largest free open-air music event, staged at the Granaries in Floriana and drawing tens of thousands for a single night of pop and dance headliners. The concert opens Malta Music Week and is broadcast and streamed internationally by MTV.
