The museum is open through the week year-round, so there are no seasonal dates to plan around, though the drive and the short walks to the nearby dinosaur footprints are most pleasant in the dry, clear months of autumn through spring. Summer afternoons can bring thunderstorms and winter mornings are cold at this altitude. Allow a couple of hours for the collections and archive, more if you add the fossil trackways and a wander through the historic mission buildings. Getting there & around
Morija is about 40 kilometres south of Maseru on the tarred Main South (A2) highway, under an hour by car and reachable by shared taxi from the capital. The Morija Museum and Archives sits in the village centre near the historic mission buildings, and the dinosaur footprints are a short guided walk up the hillside above; ask at the museum for a local guide. There is no need to book for a normal visit, though it is worth confirming opening hours in advance. Combine the visit with Thaba-Bosiu, roughly an hour away, for a full day of Basotho history.
