The museum is open on weekdays and Saturday mornings, roughly nine to five during the week with shorter Saturday hours, and closed Sunday; check locally as hours shift. Admission is a few US dollars. It is a compact indoor visit of an hour or two, comfortable year-round, and pairs well with a walking tour of central Monrovia and Providence Island nearby. Displays are labelled simply, so a guide adds a great deal of context. The dry season from November to April is the easiest time to move around the city on foot.
Getting there & around
The National Museum is on Broad Street in central Monrovia, walkable within the downtown core and a few minutes from Providence Island, so the two combine easily into a half-day of city heritage. Bring small US dollar notes for the entry fee, and a guide or a Monrovia operator if you want the collection explained. Liberia is at a general Level 2 advisory for petty crime in urban areas, so keep valuables out of sight, stay alert in the busy commercial streets and avoid walking after dark.
