The museum keeps regular daytime hours and is closed Mondays, so plan a morning or early-afternoon visit and check current times before arriving. Leon is one of the hottest cities in Nicaragua, so the cooler, drier months from November to April are the most comfortable for combining the gallery with walking the colonial centre and climbing the cathedral roof.
Getting there & around
Leon is about an hour and a half northwest of Managua by road and a common base for Cerro Negro volcano trips, so the museum slots easily into a wider itinerary. The Ortiz-Gurdian art centre and the other main sights sit within walking distance of the central park and cathedral. No vehicle is needed inside the compact historic core.
