Martial Arts Training in SeoulKR
South Korea's capital and home to the Kukkiwon, the World Taekwondo Headquarters and global authority on the art. A dense, efficient megacity with one of the best public transport systems in the world.
Why here
Kukkiwon is the World Taekwondo Headquarters, the body that certifies dan ranks globally and sets the curriculum for the 80 million people who practice the art worldwide. The Kukkiwon Experience Program runs regular visitor training sessions and issues official certificates. Training here is about more than technique: it is the institutional source of the art, and the practitioners and instructors in the building carry that context. Beyond Kukkiwon, Seoul has a serious Hapkido scene and a dense network of traditional dojos across Gangnam and Jongno.
Best months
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are the best windows for Seoul. Both avoid the extreme heat and humidity of summer (July to August) and the harsh cold of winter (December to February). The Kukkiwon Experience Program runs throughout the year; book through the official Kukkiwon website several weeks in advance. Major domestic Taekwondo competitions happen in Seoul regularly and can be worth timing a visit around.
Getting there & around
Incheon International Airport (ICN) is a major regional hub with connections across Asia and to North America and Europe. The AREX express train connects the airport to Seoul Station in 43 minutes. Kukkiwon is in the Gangnam district (Yeoksam area) on Metro line 2, easy to reach from most central accommodation. Korea's public transport is excellent and inexpensive. A T-money card handles all subway and bus fares. English signage is widespread.
