The southernmost inhabited island of the Grenadines, a small sharp-peaked island whose Clifton harbour is fringed by a shallow, reef-protected lagoon that has become one of the Caribbean's best flat-water kitesurfing spots.
Why here
Union Island sits at the bottom of the Grenadines chain, and off its main village of Clifton lies a wide, waist-deep lagoon held behind a barrier reef. Steady Atlantic trade winds blow across warm, flat, turquoise water with plenty of room and no obstacles, which is close to ideal for learning to kitesurf and just as good for freestyle and cruising once you can ride. Beyond the lagoon the reef edge and the neighbouring islets open up downwind runs and small waves for more experienced riders. The season is the northern winter, when the trades are most reliable, and the setting is hard to beat, a tiny Caribbean island with a kite lagoon on its doorstep and the rest of the Grenadines strung out to the north. For a warm-water kite trip that suits a first lesson or a fortnight of riding, Union is the Caribbean pick.
Best months
The kite season runs from about November to June, driven by the winter and spring trade winds, with the strongest and most consistent wind usually from December to April. The Clifton lagoon is shallow, flat and reef-protected, so it is a safe, forgiving place to learn, while the reef edge offers small waves and downwinders for advanced riders. Wind is thermally reinforced through the day; mornings can start lighter and build.
Getting there & around
Union Island is reached by a short flight or the Grenadines ferry from Saint Vincent, or by boat from Bequia and Canouan; its own small airstrip takes light aircraft. The kite centre sits by the little marina, a two-minute walk from Clifton, so you base yourself in or near the village and walk to the lagoon. Build in buffer days around ferry and flight schedules, and note the centre runs a seasonal operation over the winter and spring wind window.

SchoolJT Pro Center is a kitesurfing and wing-foiling school on the Clifton lagoon of Union Island, founded by professional kitesurfer Jeremie Tronet and run as a Duotone Pro Center. It teaches to the International Kiteboarding Organization standard in the shallow, flat, reef-protected lagoon, taking beginners from their first lesson to independent riding and coaching freestyle and foiling. It runs seasonally over the winter and spring trade-wind window, roughly November to June.
