Why here
Nonsuch Bay is one of the Caribbean's most forgiving kitesurfing spots. On Antigua's windward east coast, a long outer reef breaks the Atlantic swell and leaves a broad, shallow lagoon behind Green Island where the water is often waist to chest deep and glassy flat. The same easterly trade winds that make the island a sailing centre blow side-shore across these flats from November to April, steady and clean, so a learner can stand up and try again rather than being washed into deep water or shorebreak. The far north beach of Green Island is the launch, reachable only by boat, which keeps it quiet and uncrowded compared with the busy kite beaches elsewhere in the region. There is space for beginners to practise their first water starts on the inside and flat water for freeriders and freestylers to carve on the outside, with the reef keeping everything calm. Warm water, reliable wind and a shallow, protected lagoon add up to a spot that flatters new riders and still rewards the experienced, in a corner of Antigua most visitors never see.
Best months
The kite season runs roughly late November to April on the winter trade winds, typically 15 to 25 knots side-shore across a shallow, flat lagoon protected by an outer reef, with warm water around 26 to 28 degrees year round. The best flats sit behind Green Island on the north side of Nonsuch Bay and are reachable only by boat, so most riders go through the on-site school for transfers, launch assistance and lessons.
Getting there & around
Nonsuch Bay is on the east coast in St. Philip's parish, about 40 minutes by road from V. C. Bird International Airport. The kite spot itself is the north beach of Green Island in the middle of the bay, reachable only by boat, so riders book a pickup from one of the mainland points. The on-site school handles transfers, gear and lessons, and runs daily from late November to the end of March.

School40Knots is a kitesurfing and wing-foiling school on the north beach of Green Island, at the mouth of Nonsuch Bay on Antigua's protected east coast, reachable only by boat with pickup from the mainland. It runs Ozone-equipped lessons from late November to March, with each instructor following students in a dinghy for close, fast-progressing coaching on the shallow flats, and also offers wing foiling, stand-up paddleboarding and rental for independent riders.
