Why here
October in Icaraizinho is the windiest month of the year, roughly double the April low, which makes it one of the few destinations on any calendar where the peak month and the shoulder-season price land together. The other reason to come is structural: there is flatwater inside the point and waves outside it, within a few hundred meters of each other. That is the rare geometry where a couple at different levels does not have to split up for the day, one learning in the flat and one riding swell, meeting for lunch. The village is small, the schools are small, and the pace matches.
Best months
The Ceara trades peak here in October and the difference against the low season is close to a factor of two, so wind is not the thing you plan around. What you plan around is where on the beach you ride: the point creates a flat protected stretch on one side and leaves open swell on the other, and which one suits you changes with the tide. Schools run downwinders along the coast as the standard progression once you are riding upwind. Water is warm year round and nobody wears rubber. The wind is strong enough in October that a first lesson can feel overpowered, so ask for the smaller kit rather than assuming.
Getting there & around
Fly into Fortaleza and drive roughly three hours northwest to Amontada. Transfers are almost always arranged through your pousada. Icaraizinho is a fishing village that acquired kitesurfing rather than a resort built around it, so accommodation is small pousadas, the food is local and the evenings are quiet. Instruction runs in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish across the schools. There are two credible operations here, so there is a fallback if one is full, but the village is small enough that peak-season beds are the binding constraint rather than lesson slots.
