Kitesurfing in Hamata
Remote lagoon in Egypt's deep south Red Sea, several hours past Marsa Alam and effectively a single-camp destination.
Why here
Hamata runs counter to the European calendar. Its season opens in September and runs to June, strongest from September through March, which means it is ramping up exactly as the Mediterranean shuts down. The riding is a large shallow lagoon in the deep south of the Egyptian Red Sea, far enough from the resort coast that the water is empty. October is the build: the wind is establishing rather than peaking, and the camp is filling rather than full. The tradeoff is stark and worth stating up front. This is a single-camp destination, so you are buying one operator's judgment, one kitchen and one set of gear for the length of your stay.
Best months
The lagoon is flat and shallow, which makes it a genuine learning spot, and the surrounding water is open enough that experienced riders have somewhere to go. October wind is building toward the winter strength rather than sitting at it, so expect usable days rather than guaranteed ones, and expect the occasional day off. Air and water are still warm this early in the season and rubber is optional. The deep south has effectively no light pollution and no other operators within easy reach, so a bad wind week has no fallback plan.
Getting there & around
Fly into Marsa Alam and transfer roughly 180 kilometers south, which is about three hours and is arranged by the camp rather than by you. This is the single largest logistical fact about Hamata: you are committing to a remote camp for the whole stay, with no realistic way to change your mind on arrival. Accommodation, food, gear and instruction all come from the same operator as a package. There is one credible kite operation here, which is a genuine monoculture rather than a research gap, so read recent guest reports carefully before committing a week.
