The 42-kilometre stretch of the Moselle along Luxembourg's south-eastern border, from Schengen through Remich and Wormeldange to Grevenmacher, a narrow band of steep riverside vineyards that is the Grand Duchy's only wine region and the home of Cremant de Luxembourg.
Why here
The Luxembourg bank of the Moselle carries one of the most relaxed river rides in Europe, a flat, car-free cycle path that runs the length of the wine country from Schengen in the south to Wasserbillig in the north. On the Luxembourg side the route is part of the national cycle network as piste cyclable PC3, paved and signposted, hugging the water below the vineyard terraces and passing through Remich, Wormeldange and Grevenmacher. Because the valley floor is level, this is riding almost anyone can do, and the wine towns are spaced a few kilometres apart, so a day turns naturally into cellar stops, a riverside lunch and a boat back. Bridges cross to the German bank at several points, letting you loop both sides of the river and the vineyards that climb from each shore. In autumn the terraces turn gold above the path.
Best months
The riverside path rides best from April to October, when the weather settles and the wine towns, terraces and river boats are all running; September and October add harvest colour. The route is flat and paved throughout, suitable for touring and e-bikes and for children on the traffic-free sections. Summer weekends bring walkers and other riders onto the busier stretches near Remich. Winter riding is possible but cold, grey and quiet, with many cellars and boat services closed.
Getting there & around
The path is reached at Remich, Grevenmacher or Schengen, each 25 to 40 minutes from Luxembourg City on the free national buses, most of which carry bikes. Rental stations along the river let you hire a touring or e-bike at one town and drop it at another, so rides can be one-way with a bus or boat return. The Luxembourg side links to the German Moselle cycle path over several bridges for longer loops. Bring or hire lights and a lock; cellars and cafes line the route for stops.

It rents touring bikes, mountain bikes and e-bikes with a helmet included, and its one-way system lets riders collect a bike at one station and return it at any other, which suits point-to-point rides down the valley cycle path with a bus or boat back.
