Culinary / Cooking in Tallinn
Estonia's capital on the Gulf of Finland, pairing a UNESCO-listed medieval Hanseatic old town with the creative Kalamaja waterfront, the parkland palaces of Kadriorg, and a lively food, film and museum scene.
Why here
Estonia's food has quietly become one of the Baltics' most interesting, and Tallinn is where you learn to cook it. New Nordic thinking landed here on top of a deep larder of black rye bread, Baltic herring and sprats, forest mushrooms, berries and game, and the city's cooking studios teach that mix hands-on. In a class you take the ideas, then cook a full multi-course Estonian meal from scratch with a chef at your shoulder before sitting down to eat it. It is a low-key, generous way into a culture that treats foraging and seasonality as second nature, and it works year-round whatever the weather outside.
Best months
Cooking classes run indoors year-round, so they suit any season and make a good rainy-day or winter option. Studios take small groups and most schedule sessions daily or by booking, so reserve a place ahead, especially in summer and around the Christmas market weeks. Tell the studio in advance about dietary needs so the menu can be set.
Getting there & around
Both studios are central in Tallinn: Tore Toit sits inside the Old Town, and the Food Academy is a short walk away near the harbour at Lootsi 8. Sessions typically last two to three hours and end with a shared meal, so leave the evening open. Book directly through each studio and confirm the class language, as both run in English on request.

Toiduakadeemia
SchoolToiduakadeemia, the Food Academy, is a Tallinn culinary studio at Lootsi 8 near the harbour, where small groups cook a multi-course menu hands-on under professional chefs before sitting down to eat together. Its several halls seat up to seventy guests, and in summer it runs a seasonal kitchen at the Estonian Open Air Museum. Classes range across Estonian, French and Asian cooking, with the Estonian menus drawing on local, seasonal ingredients.
Tore Toit
SchoolTore Toit runs Estonian-cuisine cooking classes in the heart of Tallinn's Old Town, built around a love of local ingredients and traditional recipes. In a hands-on session, small groups cook a full three-course Estonian meal from scratch under a chef's guidance and then sit down to eat it, with classes offered daily at set morning and evening times. The dishes lean on Estonian staples such as black bread, Baltic fish, forest mushrooms and seasonal produce.
