Culinary / Cooking in Chania

Greece · Southern Europe

Crete's northwestern gateway, a historic Venetian harbor town that serves as the access point for Samaria Gorge and the White Mountains canyon system, two of Europe's finest canyon walks.

Why here

Cooking classes in the villages around Chania start in the garden. You pick what you cook, then knead kalitsounia and cook over fire rather than watch a demonstration.

Hands On Cretan Cooking hosts a four-hour class in a family garden at Kounoupidiana, fifteen minutes from the centre of Chania: pick vegetables, prep the slow-cooked main, knead kalitsounia and fry potatoes over fire, then sit down to the feast with local wine and raki included. Groups run from two to ten guests, at 125 euros a head for two, easing to 85 from six up, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menus on request. Booking runs on a live calendar, with WhatsApp contact.
