Why here

The Corning Museum of Glass is the most comprehensive glass institution in the world — 50,000 objects tracing 3,500 years of glassmaking history. But the reason to come is The Studio: an internationally recognised centre for glass education that runs everything from 60-minute make-your-own experiences to the two-year Glassmaking Institute launched in 2025. Classes cover hot glass (furnace blowing), kilnwork, flameworking, and cold techniques, taught by leading glass artists. Hands-on Glass, the city's first public-access studio, offers instruction for all ages independent of the museum. Corning is one of the few places in the world where serious multi-week glass study is available to visiting artists.

The Studio operates year-round; classes run daily. Winter is the quietest and most available period — ideal for multi-day intensive courses. Summer brings family visitors to the museum; book Studio classes in advance. The Finger Lakes region is beautiful in autumn (September–October) — foliage and harvest season coincide with good workshop availability.

School

The first public-access glassblowing studio in Corning, open since 1990 — predating The Studio by years. Hands-on Glass is an independent operation offering furnace glassblowing experiences for all ages and skill levels, in a smaller, less institutional setting than the Museum's programme. It remains the most accessible entry point to Corning glassblowing for families and casual visitors, with a lower cost and walk-in-friendly format.
