Tuvalu
Polynesia
One of the smallest and most remote nations on earth, a chain of nine low coral atolls and reef islands scattered across the Central Pacific between Fiji and Kiribati. Its highest point is barely above the sea, which makes it a front line of climate change, and its draw is the ocean itself: the vast lagoon of the capital atoll Funafuti and its protected marine reserve. Tourism is tiny, arranged through the government tourism office and local island councils.
