Seychelles
Eastern Africa
An archipelago of 115 islands in the western Indian Ocean, split between the granitic inner islands clustered around Mahe, Praslin and La Digue and the low coral atolls that scatter south toward Aldabra. The inner islands hold sculpted granite headlands, calm reef-fringed bays and endemic palm forest, while the outer atolls guard giant tortoises and seabird colonies. Victoria, on Mahe, is one of the smallest capitals in the world.

What you can do in Seychelles
Scuba Diving
- MaheApr May Sep Oct NovMahe is where Seychelles diving is easiest to reach and hardest to tire of. The signature underwater feature is granite: house-sized boulders that tumble from the beaches into the sea and continue as pinnacles, swim-throughs and canyons draped in soft coral and fanning gorgonians. From the dive hub at Beau Vallon the boats run to the sheltered Baie Ternay Marine Park, to shallow reefs good for a first course, and to deeper sites and wrecks for logged divers. Whale sharks pass along this coast on their migration between roughly August and October, and eagle rays, hawksbill turtles and reef fish work the boulders year round. The water is warm enough that most people dive in a shorty.
- PraslinApr May Oct NovPraslin trades the busier hub of Mahe for shorter boat runs to some of the archipelago's best granite diving. From Cote d'Or the sites lie fifteen to thirty minutes out: the current-swept pinnacle of Ave Maria Rocks, the reefs off Aride and Booby Islands, and the boulder fields around Coco, Sister and Felicite where whitetip reef sharks, eagle rays and hawksbill turtles are regular. The topography is the draw, granite towers and swim-throughs rather than flat reef, and the traffic is lighter than Beau Vallon. It pairs naturally with a stay on Praslin or La Digue and with a morning in the Vallee de Mai forest between dives.
